Frank and open talk

I'd rather speak my mind within the fire of my enemyies, than to stay silent in comfort of my fear - Shelby Devaney

As an amateur practitioner of the broadcasting arts - the freedom of speech is the most cherished amendment that I can exercise. No greater is there a right than to have one's opinion be heard without unjust repercussions.

Unfortunately, it appears as if we are living in politically correct times. The days of simple black bars censoring just the naughty bits is an archaic means.

Social media has created a stage where anyone could become a star. Although at face value this is not an issue; when one takes the time to analyze this phenomenon - one would be able to comprehend just how under the microscope we all are allowing ourselves to be exposed to.  From lazy regressive millennials to last grasp at youth seniors, too many of us have dwindled our minds to just staring at a five inch screen uploading brief snippets of video or pictures to show the world our own version of the highlight reel. This is done for no other reason than to enjoy one endorphin filled moment of fleeting joy. The ability to know that your life for the next 10 minutes does not suck as bad as the next person's.

Then, of course, if it is not for showing off, then social media is utilized to shame people for simply being honest about their thoughts - even to the point of job termination or opportunity loss. This exercise is a standard play from the group-think mentality. If you do not agree with the loudest majority, then you are found guilty in the court of the powerful public minority and sentenced to being labeled as racist, homophobic, transphobic, xenaphonic, sexist and the list goes on.

Home of the brave...I think not. Awaken, you people!
